Discount Cab History

Total Transit, Inc. was founded in March 1984 by purchasing an existing 16-car airport fleet. Craig Hughes was and is still the principal owner involved with Total Transit, Inc., which is 100% owned by Craig and Christine Hughes.

In July 1984, Total Transit started Discount Cab with two vehicles to fill a void in the Phoenix taxi market. It provided high-quality service at a low price and was an immediate success.

Total Transit purchased several companies over the next few years. This consolidation of smaller companies led to Total Transit's dominance in the Phoenix cab business. Total Transit currently operates over 450 vehicles with its division of Discount Cab, Discount Cab Airport/Resort and Meditrans (our non-emergency medical vans).

Since 1993, Total Transit has established solid relationships with a majority of the managed healthcare providers in the area. Total Transit currently contracts with over 200 government and private agencies.

In 1999, Total Transit started its Meditrans division to service the needs of the para-transit population. Total Transit now operates from bases in east and west Maricopa County as well as Tucson.

In June 2000, Total Transit was awarded the taxicab contract for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport by the City of Phoenix. With the addition of 70 vehicles required for this, Total Transit became the largest taxi company in the Phoenix Metro Area.
