Diesel Bus Technician

Summary:
- Perform specialized mechanical duties in the repair and maintenance of diesel transit buses and other heavy equipment. Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform repairs to heavy equipment. Support the bus operations in maintaining safe, clean operating buses.
- Diagnose and repair both electrical and hydraulic wheelchair lift equipment, electrical systems using wiring schematics and electrical test equipment, heavy-duty heating and air condition systems, and electric over air door systems.
- Perform scheduled Preventative Maintenance Inspections.
- DVIR write up repairs:
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair: Cummins Insite software, ZF transmissions, New Flyer bus coach, Thermo King Air conditioning, electronic head signs, s cam air brake system, hydraulic brake systems, electronic speed sensors, and air suspensions. Repair may require the reading and interpreting wiring, hydraulic, and pneumatics schematics, performing minor brazing and welding, performing minor body-work, and operating heavy-duty brake lathe. Program: electronic head signs, electronic engine control systems, and other electronic control systems.
Qualifications:
- CDL B Arizona Driver's License
- ASE Certified Bus Mechanic
- ASE A/C Certificate
Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma
- Ten years experience in fleet maintenance of heavy equipment buses preferred.
- Work requires an education background normally acquired through a high school education with course work in skilled crafts of trades. Must possess an air condition certification. Should have a strong background in both the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty buses. Must be able to provide technical training to lower level personnel.

Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant.
Physical Demands:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. The job is performed under with some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
